The Annual Event for American Romantic Fiction Authors
The Romance Writers of America society will hold its 29th Annual National Conference in Washington DC. The dates which have been announced are July 15-18. Gorgeous weather and beautiful romance – what could be finer?
So, what could possibly be your reason for going to the Romance Writers of America conference? Well, for a start, supporting the society itself is an exceptionally good reason to help the society to help all writers. The society has been constructed to provide help and advice to romance writers of all kinds, face-to-face, online and through events such as conferences. Events like these do not just happen – they need organisation, enthusiasm and support from members.
As well as the more obvious professional assistance an aspiring, or even a productive, writer can receive, the opportunity to mix with people who live and breathe the world of romance writing is a fascinating one. You never know who you may meet and how many friends you may make along the way. Being around writers is one sure-fire way of filling your head full of inspiration and getting the creative juices flowing.
Plans for the Conference
If you decide to attend the next conference, then you are in for an action-packed few days. There are events for every taste, for the less experienced novice writer to the well published and famous, with ample opportunity to get to know other guests and network to your heart’s content.
For those who are particularly keen to improve their own writing and gain a better knowledge of the publishing world, there are plans to hold over one hundred workshops, and to also host various panels with delegates from the world of romance publishing to give the budding writer a bit of helpful advice. If you prefer to work in more detail, and in private, there are plans also for attendees to be able to book a meeting with a literary agent or an editor. How can anyone who is serious about their writing pass up a chance like that?!
Of course, one of the most glamorous parts of the conference, as with every year, are the awards for both published and unpublished romance works, in the Golden Heart and RITA Awards, reflecting the Romance Writers of America’s eagerness to include everyone within the world of romance writing, from the inexperienced upwards.
The Conference Venue for 2009
After nine years, the conference will return to Washington DC, and is to be held within the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel. And what a marvellous place to hold a conference!
This ten-floor building boasts well over one thousand rooms, catering luxuriously for all possible eventualities, both domestic and business. An array of restaurants, cafes and bars are to be found within close proximity – fantastic news for the ever-peckish.
There is also a variety of recreational activities, from golf, to swimming, horse riding and use of the fitness centre, so there is no excuse to return home feeling like a Thanksgiving turkey! And of course, being in Washington, there are many landmarks and attractions for those who wish to while away a few hours while at the conference.
